MARK INGRAM WINS THE HEISMAN TROPHY

Last night Mark Ingram, a 212 lb sophomore from Flint Michigan, won the Heisman Trophy. After the work he put in all year, he capped it off with a stellar performance against the Florida Gators last Saturday in Atlanta on his team's way to another SEC Championship title.

For the year he currently has the following rushing stats:
Attempts - 249
Average Yards/Carry - 6.2
Total Yards - 1542
Touchdowns - 15

He's had a wonderful season, and definitely you have to tip your cap to his offensive line as they have done a wonderful job creating holes for him and allowing him to run through some great lanes.

This is Alabama's first Heisman Trophy winner.

Congratulations, Mark. Job well done. You've joined an elite group of men.

H.R. 390: College Football Playoff Act of 2009

A playoff in college football?

Everyone in the world except the bowl coalition cartel wants this. Everyone I have ever talked to wants this. So what has to happen. Joe Barton has to happen. Joe Barton [R-TX6] and crew have created H.R. 390: College Football Playoff Act of 2009 and this is the just the beginning. Here is the meat of the bill which hopes to let the best teams play it out on the field.

College Football Playoff Act of 2009 - Prohibits promoting, marketing, or advertising a post-season National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) game as a championship or national championship game (or any merchandise that refers to the game as a championship or national championship game) unless such game is the final game of a single elimination post-season playoff system for which all NCAA Division I FBS conferences and unaffiliated Division I FBS teams are eligible. Treats a violation as an unfair or deceptive act or practice under the Federal Trade Commission Act. Makes this Act applicable to any game that occurs after January 31, 2011.

I thoroughly applaud Joe Barton and company. Show your support as these gentlemen attempt to right the ship in college football and bring the sport what is has always needed - A Cinderella Story.

The next step in the process has the bill going to the House Energy and Commerce Committee. Then, with a little luck, it will go to the full House of Representatives.

President Obama has made it clear he wants to see real change in this arena, and I agree with him. This is long overdue. The sport would benefit greatly from a playoff. It would ultimately take the debate out of the board room and let the players play and decide it out on the field.

Championship Saturday: Predictions

Well here we go. The last true Saturday of the College Football Season. Let's get to it.

Up first, 12:00 PM ET No. 5 Cincinnati at No. 15 Pittsburgh
This should be a good one. This game has bounce around from pick 'em to 2 to 2.5. Look for Cincinnati to take care of business on the road. There just clicking right now, and I don't see Pitt stopping that train.

3:30 PM ET Arizona at No. 18 USC
Does this game really matter, this year since Oregon is going to the Rose Bowl. No. But we'll keep an eye on it nonetheless.

4:00 PM ET No. 1 Florida vs. No. 2 Alabama at the Georgia Dome
I don't think Urban Meyer is going to fool Coach Saban twice in row in the ATL. Look for Dunlap (who is expected to be a top 10 NFL draft pick) serving a 1 game suspension to be key. BAMA will win this one.

8:00 PM ET No. 3 Texas vs. No. 22 Nebraska at the Dallas Cowboys Stadium
Texas is a bigtime favorite in this one, currently predicted to win by 14. If anybody can do it in the BIG 12, it is going to be Bo Pellini. I'm just not sure if there offense can hang with Jordan Shipley and Colt McCoy. I'm love to see the upset - bring on the bedlam. Look for Texas to win this one, but don't be surprised tonight if Nebraska reclaims the crown.

8:00 PM ET No. 10 Georgia Tech vs. Clemson in Tampa, FL.
I'm really not sure who is going to show up in this one. After Georgia rolled it up on the ground against the yellow jackets, and the gamecocks thoroughly showed Clemson the door, it is hard to have faith in either team. Either way this is for BCS bowling rights, and I guess I'd have to say this rematch is going to be a backyard brawl similar to the first meeting these two had earlier in the year. Look for Spiller to bust in big. I doubt he gets shut down two weeks in a row.

UGA + WISHBONE IN 2010 = WINS

Coach Mike Bobo has taken the losses to heart this season. After a very disappointing loss on the road up in Knoxville, Mike Bobo took action as he got out of the press box chair and began stalking the sideline. He used the proximity to his players and took initiative to coach them up at every opportunity.

In addition, his game plans have evolved on a much more frequent basis, and for the better. This was clearly evident of the game plan against in state rival Georgia Tech as the two teams squared off for the regular season finale. One the opening drive the Dawgs came out and ran it the entire drive. Stuffing it down the throats of the smaller Georgia Tech defensive defensive front was the game plan. And it payed off big time.

Credit Coach Bobo for seeing this and believing in his O Line and running backs. Many in Dawg Nation have been clamoring for a running game that shakes out to dominance. The doctor ordered a more physical game-plan, and Bobo was there to serve it up. Realizing the a run game would move the chains, resulted in ball control and touchdowns. Coach Bobo verly likely had an epiphany. Running with King and Ealey = First downs & Touchdowns & less turnovers in the air.

The Coach should look long and hard at working on some Wishbone with AJ Green as the lone wideout for 2010. Ball control and a return to physical play could be just what the doctor orders in 2010 and beyond.
